Duties Of A Certified Nursing Assistant
A Certified Nursing Assistant will undergo CNA training in order to do his job effectively and efficiently. Moreover, a CNA works under the supervision of Registered Nurses for a delivery of quality care to all patients.
Important duties of a CNA are the following:
The CNA has to feed, bathe and dress the patients. Generally, this is usually done to those patients who are stroke victims, elderly residents of some nursing homes, or any individual who is yet to recover from any accident, surgeries, or even injuries in the hospital.
Another is that the CNA have to take the vital signs of the patients. Getting the temperature and pulse rate blood pressure; recording these is the responsibility of the CNA.
Next is to prepare meals, clean the bed and room of the patient. This duty is part of meeting the basic needs of a patient. Most of the time, this is part of the main jobs of the CNA. This is also the time that the CNA will have the chance to have a regular one on one contact with the patient that would result to a good relationship between the two sides.
Fourth is setting up the medical equipment and assist some medical procedures. In some cases, those CNA’s who are exceptionally trained during the CNA training will be allowed to assist with or even perform some medical procedures such as drawing blood from the patient.
Lastly, the CNA has to answer all the calls for help by the patient and observe the changes of the patient’s condition and behavior from time to time.
Normally, the job takes long hours and includes heavy lifting of materials. But what matters to most CNA is their given effort to take care of the ill patients day by day; it uplifts them as it gives an admirable reward for the CNA’s feeling on his profession. Also, the skills that are learned during a CNA training and on the job will be an immense help in the long run if the CNA wants to become a Registered Nurse.
